BRIDGE INDIA - Monday, February 22 @ 9am Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5)
One Month On: The Biden Administration’s India priorities
India-US ties transcend party politics and, Biden having long been an advocate of deeper ties with India, we should see ever closer relations between the countries under his new administration. With India’s increasing concern over China’s growing presence in the Indo-Pacific, and the US also seeking to counter China’s growing global influence, India and the US could further develop a close defence and security relationship. But there are other issues that will be on the agenda for discussion, such as visas, job creation, startups and tech, energy and climate change and space, as both countries emerge out of the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. Our session brings together senior stakeholders from the US and India to explore the form this partnership could take over the coming four years.

An Intensifying Rivalry? The Future of India-China Relations
Ten months after the beginning of their most recent border standoff, relations between India and China remain on a downward trajectory. China’s deepening military and economic relationships with countries of South Asia and the Indian Ocean region has raised fears of strategic encirclement of India. India’s response has been to align more closely with the United States and democratic allies Japan and Australia. Join Hudson Institute Research Fellow Aparna Pande with expert panelists Shivshankar Menon and Jayadeva Ranade for a discussion on this timely topic.

WILSON CENTER - Monday, February 22 @ 4pm Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5)
Outside the Box: How Globalization Changed from Moving Stuff to Spreading Ideas
Globalization is one of the most contentious subjects of our time—but it has a history. In Outside the Box, Marc Levinson explains why the complex value chains that defined it starting in the 1980s were merely the third stage in a phenomenon that has evolved over two centuries. Subsidies and misjudgments of risk arguably led to excessive globalization in the early 21st century. Join us for this discussion with Levinson as he explains why globalization is entering a new era in which moving stuff will matter much less than moving services, information, and ideas and how governments can act to ensure citizens everywhere can benefit from these new forms of globalization.

COVID-19 and the future of Digital Humanitarianism
Digital tools and approaches are at the forefront of global responses to COVID-19, including in humanitarian contexts, yet stubborn ‘digital divides’ between people with and without the means to effectively use these new technologies are widening. Digital interventions also come with new risks to affected individuals and communities that aid providers must navigate. With digital tools and systems designed and used now likely to outlast the pandemic, these actions will have a lasting relevance, and makes careful consideration of their uses critical. Drawing on recently launched reports by ODI HPG and GSMA M4H, we explore the digital trends and risks emerging in the COVID-19 context, delving into themes including: successful technology in COVID-19, risks exacerbated by the crisis and changes to the ecosystem how humanitarian actors engage with other actors.
