Welcome to this week’s Policy Opportunities update. Digital policy experts are in high demand this week. There are also some interesting positions which sit at the convergence of conflict and climate policy areas. Also of note, several think tanks are looking for staff to work as special assistants to tank directors. Finally, there are several quality internships, a majority of which may be done remotely. As per usual, several tanks are advertising more than one vacancy, so make sure to search the site thoroughly and apply to all positions of interest. Special Assistant to the President
CFR is seeking a Special Assistant to work under the direction of the Council’s President and the President’s Chief of Staff. Candidates should have related experience that required judgment, strong writing and editing ability, time management skills and experience dealing with high-profile individuals. NBR will offer an eight-month fellowship for the 2021 class of fellows, from January to August, 2021 including an intensive summer seminar led by Dr. Richard Ellings. The program is aimed at students whose degrees focus on issues of strategic importance to the US in Asia. Fellows will participate in seminars, draft policy memos, conduct site visits, and attend external meetings to learn more about the multiple dimensions of US foreign policy in Asia. At the end of their summer program, the fellows will hold a roundtable to present their research findings to NBR staff and select guests from the policy, academic and business community.

Internship: Data Scientist for AI against Modern Slavery
Future Society is a ‘think-and-do tank’ focusing on the global governance of AI and other emerging technologies. The tank is looking for one intern to support our project on AI against Modern Slavery. It is imperative to innovate the process of report analysis in order to boost businesses’ compliance and help combat Modern Slavery. We are looking into automating the analysis and benchmarking of existing reports. The intern will write Python code to analyse text data, use open source natural language processing frameworks to train classification algorithms and write clear and concise text reports summarising experiments’ results for both technical and non-technical audiences.
