Policy Opportunities (Feb 12, 2021)
Numerous openings in North America, security roles, energy analysts and interesting internships are among the opportunities listed at think tanks this week.
This week there are some interesting new positions this week, including many good opportunities at tanks in North America, as well as security and energy policy positions in other geographies. There are also a number of interesting internships, some of which are paid, ranging across topic areas such as US military strategy and COVID-19. As per usual, several tanks are advertising more than one vacancy, so make sure to search the site thoroughly and apply to all positions of interest. Even if you already have a position, it is always good to keep up to speed with what is on offer in the policy space!

Asia Policy Analyst
American Progress has an immediate opening for an analyst to assist the Asia team in the NSIP department by working on a wide range of policy issues related to Japan, South Korea and North Korea. They will conduct research and related tasks on a variety of broader national security issues and support the general work of the NSIP team. Duties include overseeing AP’s existing and future Asia work on projects in key policy areas, including US relations with Japan, South Korea and policy toward North Korea; draft policy memos, talking points, charts, issue briefs, reports, op-eds, blog posts, and other briefing materials; prepare outlines and/or first drafts of columns, policy briefs, and reports; coordinate projects, scheduling, and administrative, research, and writing support as needed as well as providing day-to-day tasks and assignments to the Asia Research Associate.

Research Assistant
More in Common and the SNF Agora Institute are looking for a grad student to help with literature reviews and background research for a project focused on the collective settings that develop the behaviors that underlie a culture of democracy, and proposing a research agenda for moving forward. How can we identify and examine those settings that bring people together, nurture pluralistic democracy, and create a collective culture of democracy? Primary responsibilities include conducting literature review involving (a) developing citation network maps across multiple disciplines, (b) developing annotated bibliographies, (c) conducting interviews with leading scholars and experts in the field to gather their expertise and (d) writing the literature review. CENTRE FOR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC PROGRESS - NEW DELHI, INDIA
Research Assistant/Analyst, Energy, Natural Resources and Sustainability
CSEP is looking for a Research Assistant or Analyst to work in ongoing research in the Energy, Natural Resources and Sustainability group across areas such as future electricity systems, balance of supply options with demand, clean tech (EVs, Smart Grids, RE, etc.) and the social contract of energy (equity, sustainability, etc.). The primary function of the RA will be to support analysis and research related to highly disaggregated electricity and distribution company (DISCOM) data. This will include gathering, cleaning and processing of data, and using statistical methods and tools to answer a set of technical and policy questions. This position requires a basic grasp on the nature of power sector data, and analytical contribution to related work-streams as mentioned above. He/she will be expected to present their findings in high-level fora both within and outside CSEP, and solicit and act on received feedback.
